COMMUNITY FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIP SECURES $160,613 FOR HOMEBOUND AND HOMELESS
The Middlesex County Community Foundation partnership with the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) has provided $160,613 in two grants to benefit the homebound and homeless of Middlesex County. CHEFA has awarded $100,000 to the Estuary Council of Seniors in Old Saybrook for two specialized vans for its Valley Shore “Meals on Wheels” program and $60,613 to The Connection, Inc. for a vocational program for residents of the Eddy Shelter in Middletown.
Middlesex County Community Foundation nominated this year’s applications because they addressed substantiated needs in Middlesex County: services to the homebound and vocational services for homeless and at risk of homelessness persons.
Two new vans are just what was needed for The Estuary Council of Seniors delivers #### meals to seniors and homebound every week, month. Their ___ year old vans with ___________--will be replaced with the $100,000 CHEFA grant.
Since 2002, CHEFA has partnered with Connecticut community foundations to provide alternative sources of funds to nonprofit entities that provide essential health, educational, cultural, and childcare services to the broadest number of Connecticut residents. Nominations from community foundations are required for all grant applications under this CHEFA program. Previous grants to Middlesex County organizations have included significant grants to the Community Health Center, Gilead Community Services, Oddfellows Playhouse, Rushford Center and the Northern Middlesex YMCA for Opportunity Knocks bringing the Middlesex County total for CHEFA funding to $406,373.
The Middlesex County Community Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Middlesex County. The Foundation’s mission is to work with charitably-minded individuals and organizations, to build permanent endowments and other charitable funds and to support local non-profit organizations through effective grantmaking to address community needs.
